A wine cellar refrigeration system is a crucial component of a climate controlled wine room.
For wines to develop to their full potential, they require a storage environment wherein the range of temperature and humidity remains constant at all times.
A custom wine cellar equipped with the proper refrigeration equipment should provide the optimum storage conditions that will help preserve the aroma and flavor of wines.
The right type of wine cellar cooling unit will not only help stabilize climate conditions, but also efficiently cool a wine storage space.
There are several factors involved in determining the best cooling system for a particular wine room, such as location, the size of the wine collection, ambient conditions, room size, and constraints. Addressing these factors will help create the best possible environment for long-term storage.
Arctic Metalworks recently finished a home wine room refrigeration replacement project for a client whose custom wine cellar was supplied with the wrong type of wine cellar refrigeration system by the original refrigeration installation team.
Our engineering team first surveyed the location in the early summer of 2013, and found an under the stairwell wine cellar conversion in progress.
The Arctic team offered their wine cellar refrigeration services, as well as that of Jerry Wilson from Coastal for custom wine racking.
However, the client declined their offer and went with a cheaper team that installed a Breezaire wine cellar cooling unit and modular wine racks that were cut to fit on site.
The modular wine rack systems turned out okay for the amount that the client paid. The wine cellar refrigeration equipment, however, did not turn out so well.
The original refrigeration specialist installed a Breezeaire cooling unit that did not have enough power to reach 55°F and cool the room. The wine cellar refrigeration system eventually started icing up and leaking water.
After running diagnostics and confirming that the existing refrigeration equipment did not have the cooling capacity to maintain the ideal climate conditions, the Arctic team tore out the Breezaire cooling unit and replaced it with a unit that they designed and manufactured: the Arctic 0025 wine cellar cooling unit.
An Arctic 0025 is a split-type refrigeration system that houses the evaporator and condenser in two separate units. This type of climate control system offers flexibility in installation options, helps in noise reduction, and eliminates heat exhaust.
The split feature of the refrigeration unit allows the noisiest part of the equipment (the condensing unit) to be installed in a remote location for whisper quiet operation.
In this particular custom wine cellar refrigeration installation project, the evaporator was installed inside the wine room, while the condenser was placed outdoors, to keep it perpetually cool.
The condensing unit was fully encased in a protective housing to shield it against outside elements. A line set consisting of copper tubing and electrical wiring was used to connect both the evaporator and the condenser.
Arctic Metalworks are the wine cellar refrigeration gurus of Southern California. They manufacture commercial grade custom refrigeration systems, designed to fit the cooling needs of a wine storage space. All their cooling products are backed by a team of qualified technicians, for repair and maintenance service.
Refrigeration systems from Arctic Metalworks have a 1% call back rate, which makes their products the most dependable on the market.
