Wine Cellar Ventilation Helped Maintain a Stable Wine Cellar Environment in a High-End California Home

In California, the temperature and environment can vary greatly depending on the elevation, latitude, and proximity to the coast. Despite of extreme changes in temperature, Arctic Metalworks will ensure that your wine cellar is problem-free.

A wine cellar maintains its stable temperature because of the cooling equipment installed in it. Without it, your wines will spoil. Moreover, proper room insulation also plays a crucial role in preserving the wine’s bouquet. To avoid wine storage problems in the future, you must work with a trusted builder who has the necessary technical skills in converting a room into a climate-controlled wine cellar.

With many years of experience in wine cellar cooling installation, Arctic Metalworks is considered one of the companies in California that offers reliable and affordable refrigeration solutions. In our recent project, we had to transform a space in their high-end home into a wine cellar that would match their aesthetic and functional requirements.

The client found a few wine cellar contractors in California on the web. He ended up choosing Arctic Metalworks because he read about how knowledgeable and reliable we are in designing and building wine cellars. He contacted David Gype, the owner and founder of Arctic Metalworks, to help him in his wine room conversion project. Our team had to utilize a small kitchen pantry.

Making a Careful Assessment of the Client’s Requirements Before Creating a Design

We assessed the space before proceeding to the design process. This step helped us identify the best possible racking and cooling solutions for the limited space.

We created 3D drawings to provide the client with a better visualization of his completed wine cellar. The images consisted of the styles and dimensions of wine racks installed on all the three walls, including the bottle capacities.

Preparing the Wine Room: Framing and Insulation

After the client approved the wine cellar design we created for his high-end home, we started framing and pre-wiring the room. There were existing shelves and cabinets in the room, which we had to remove before ripping the walls and do a full build-out.

When the framing was done, we started insulating the walls and ceiling. This is a crucial step in building wine cellars before the installation of the wine racks and cooling unit. Creating an airtight seal should never be skipped.

How Wine Cellar Insulation and Vapor Barrier Can Benefit You and Your Prized Collection

Sealing your wine cellar by insulating the room correctly will keep your wine collection safe and preserve the structural integrity of your space. It will prevent the cool and warm air from leaking to and from the cellar. Just like installing wine cellar ventilation, this process is essential in building safe wine rooms in California.

Incorrect insulation will damage the quality of your wines. Moreover, it will also damage your wine cooling system. An unstable environment will force your refrigeration unit to work hard, which can result in system breakdowns and higher energy consumption.

Another way to create a perfect wine cellar environment is by installing a vapor barrier on the warm side of the wall. Typically made of plastic sheeting or foam, a vapor barrier’s key role is to prevent moisture from soaking your insulation. As long as the insulation and vapor barrier are installed by a professional, you will not have to worry about moisture-related problems.

If you do not want additional expenses for the repair, replacement of your climate-control system, or surge in your electric bill, it is best to work with a premier wine cellar builder like Arctic Metalworks. We also insulated the door with weather stripping and an automatic door bottom.

Polyurethane Foam Insulation

Plastic sheeting is a traditional type of insulation. For his particular project, we used spray foam insulation, which is considered the most efficient and reliable solution to prevent wine storage issues caused by humidity problems. This is an affordable solution because it can act as both an insulator and a vapor barrier.

Wine Cellar Ventilation: How Arctic Metalworks Created a Reliable and Efficient Cooling System

As they say, the heart of a wine cellar is the refrigeration system. Therefore, it must be chosen and installed correctly with the help of a cooling expert.

Challenges are common in wine cellar ventilation projects. As a top-notch company in California, Arctic Metalworks always finds solutions construction problems.

For this particular project, we had to use a split system. We placed the evaporator inside the wine cellar. We mounted the unit on a wall in the garage. We suggested that the condenser is installed outdoors for better heat dissipation, but the client chose to utilize his garage for the exhaust room. It was okay to utilize the garage because it is large, and would not heat up the room.

The wine cooling system required 15-ampere power to function. The client had a water heater, which was located in the garage. We decided to use it as the power source and let the drain go down to a mini pan. There is a need to pump if there is no existing drain.
